August 25th SF City Hill Climb
_____________________________
10-ish Miles BUT the great thing about City hikes is you can stop for coffee or hop on a bus or cab just about anytime you want! If you don't know the buses, we'll help you out. Do one hill or all of them or anything in-between. We're meeting at a coffee shop at 10am; I'm just wearing sneakers...

Meeting at Martha Brothers on Cortland @ 10am.
maps.google.com/maps

Free unregulated street parking on many of the streets of Bernal Heights, woohoo! Read the signs with care...

Hiking up Bernal Hill, Mt. Davidson, Twin Peaks, Tank Hill, Monument Hill, Buena Vista Park and Corona Heights, then back to Cortland....

Ignore the map--our hike is half as far as the one shown there, but there's a goofy record of lots these places over at blog.myspace.com/index.cfm

September 2nd
Angel Island--the paved loop plus the Mt Livermore "summit" hike

8.6 Miles (Time Permitting--we may only do 6 or 7 miles in order to catch the last Ferry)
www.parks.ca.gov/pages/468...ev0905.pdf

We'll do the Sunset Trail to Mt. Livermore, and then the North Ridge Trail down to the Perimeter Road which we'll do clockwise (folks who want to skip the Perimeter trip will can easily go counter-clockwise the other way to the Ferries).
This one is all about the views--the perimeter road is paved and full of strollers and bikes, but Angel Island is an amazing vantage point.
Get Ferry Tickets here:
www.blueandgoldfleet.com/Ferry...le.cfm
Folks can meet at the SF Ferry Building at 10:45 to take the 11:20 Ferry.
Return ferry leaves Angel Island at 3:55.
Here's a little more info (but not the jike we're doing) www.bahiker.com/northbayhi...island.html

www.parks.ca.gov/pages/471...ochure.pdf )
Hogback to Hoo Koo Ee Koo to Temelpa trail up and Fern Trail Down, approx. 10 miles. Kinda tough but scenic as all get out. Check out the photo from last winter: bayareahiking.tribe.net/photos...9717ac3
View it full size if you have time!

September 23rd
Redwood Regional Park--Stream Trail Loop

This one's 3.5 miles but for folks interested in something longer we might make it a double loop after returning to the trailhead, heading out for another 7 miles further up to the ridge trail perhaps...
11am Meet near the Fishway Interpretive Site at the first parking area after the Redwood Gate entrance off Redwood Road (see map).
www.ebparks.org/files/EBRP...ap_full.pdf
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let us know if you're coming so we know to look for you!
We'll get you a ride if you need one.
These are low-to-no-pressure groups--folks can run ahead with their stopwatches and headphones, dawdle and snack endlessly, take pictures, meditate, trot, ruminate, chat, not-chat, you name it. We just get there and enjoy the place however we each see fit, trying not to hinder anyone else from doing the same.
Cheers!

:)

  • IMPORTANT ANGEL ISLAND CHANGE!

    Tue, August 21, 2007 - 8:41 AM
We will meet at Pier 41 at 11:00!
Tickets available here; I just don't know how necessary it is it pre-purchase, but better safe than sorry!
    www.blueandgoldfleet.com/Ferry...le.cfm
I'll probably take the F-Train to Pier 41 from Embarcadero BART/Muni. It's a nice trip along the Embarcadero...
    www.blueandgoldfleet.com/Infor...ns.cfm

If there's unanimous interest in leaving earlier, we could meet at 9:00 for the 9:45 Ferry and have more time on the Island. But what are the chances...?
    Cheers!

If you have purchased a ticket and not rsvp'd please let me know asap...I may cancel and reschedule for a time when my lovely significant other (who was looking forward to this immensely) can come. Right now her knee is not up to the task.
To clarify, right now we're ON, but if no one has tickets but me, I will reschedule. So if you HAVE tickets, let me know soon!!!

Ye, I'm gonna be a big dork and post just so folks notice the hike this weekend. (Redwood Regional Park 3.5 mile loop followed by 5-7 mile bigger loop if there's interest....see the top post...)
Is that irritating for me to do?

    :)

      • As Mike says, take a look at the first post in the thread. Or, I'll do it for you:

        • OK, so I didn't expect to go on this one, since I had relatives from out of town. But they suddenly decided to spend Sunday up in the wine country, and I thought I let 'em get do the romantic day without me along as a tour guide.

So I get there at 11am, and I guess I was the only one there? Oh well, it was a nice day for hiking; a little misty in the first hour with even a tiny bit of drizzle, and stayed cool and overcast the whole time. I ended up doing the Stream Trail to Skyline Gate, then back via the West Ridge Trail, hoping for some sunshine. A very nice set o' trails. Hopefully next time I'll be able to plan ahead of time.
          • Hey Richard!
Sorry about that. As luck would have it there was not a single RSVP for this hike, so I moseyed on over around 11:15, saw no one waiting and proceeded to do a lovely 10 miler up the East Ridge and around to the whole French Trail. About 9 lovely miles--the drizzly overcast weather sure makes the hills easier and the greens greener, doesn't it?

I am sorry I missed you, but without an RSVP I reserve the right to change plans....

            Cheers all!

            :)
            Mike
            • That's funny -- our paths must have overlapped at some point, my loop being a little further west. It's a little surprising I didn't see you on the half-mile of West Ridge you took between French Trail and Skyline.

Oh well, I'm headed over to do the Matt Davis-Steep Ravine loop today. Hiking solo is also a very nice experience, but today will be a sunscreen day.
