Went hiking here on Sunday with my girlfriend. We were actually heading for Purisima Creek Redwoods, but this was on the way so we stopped here instead. There was absolutely no one around and it was very peaceful. Mills Creek Ranch Road is in Burleigh Murray State Park in Half Moon Bay and the trail leads to the old Mills Dairy Barn. This thing is huge and is built into the hillside! It's a mix of English and Italian architectural design. Sundry other bits of antique farming equipment are set up on display around it. And as always, the things I enjoyed most about this hike were the trees, wildflowers and other foliage. Being a total hort-head I was excited to sees lots of horsetail, which was the first time I've seen it growing wild in the Bay Area. Horsetail is interesting because it's a "living fossil." It is the only surviving genus of it's class. The particular species I spotted on this trail could easily pass for a pine sapling, if you just look at it real quick.
