i'm looking to do an easy overnight backpack trip within about 4 or 5 hours from here. say a short hike in, camp/soak then short hike out the next day. anyone got a suggestion?

Sykes is always an option although its quite a hike in and out.
Harbins got some great trails, although it probably a bit to developed for what your looking for.
