those guys who are real intense with the fee sharing thing, yeah, it sound like they're just waiting for the Wii to have a hiking game, and then they wont have to leave the house. The point of most of the hikes seems to get the hike finished and get out of the woods as quickly as possible.
On this hike below, you must:
"
If interested send me:
+ Your departure location,
+ Available hiking/camping equipment,
+ Description of physical conditions or hiking experience"

How about sending a large sack of vomit?

This is intense:

Hi,

Here is a description of the upcoming Trip to Robinson Peak during the
first weekend of November (2nd, 3rd and 4Th).
Let me know if you would like to join me to hike and camp in the
eastern side of the Sierra close to Mono lake.
We will be hiking to Robinson Peak (10800 feet) that has spectacular
views over the Twin lakes and the Matterhorn Peaks.
This trip is ideal for mountain hiker and not climbing experience is
required.
We will be hiking and camping in Twin Lakes but not backpacking.

Some statics:
-13 miles and 3700 feet elevation gain and loss (Hutch).
-8 to 10 hours trip.
-Strenuous hike over trail without technical difficulty (Class 2).
-Physical condition: Need to be in a decent physical condition in
order to do the ascension that will be long.
-Expected peace: moderate to relax.

Here is the plan:

1) Friday: Live from the Bay at around 4:30 pm, the meeting point will
be determined later on.
I will be living from Foster City to 580. Dinner on the road and
arrive to Crags Campground that is in the lower twin lake on the
eastern side of the Sierra.
I expect to be there at around 11:00pm and we will bivouac unless
someone want to set his tent on the dark.

2) Saturday: Early Breakfast (at 6:00 am) and start hike before 7:30
am with light weight.
We need to bring lunch, water, sweater and warm jacket, head lamp just
in case, and one emergency kit.
The hike will proceed from Buckeye campground (7300) to Robinson Peak
(10800) following a cattle trail near the eagle river.
We can return using the same trail but we can also come down directly
to the twin lakes and pick up the car in buckeye with another car.
I want to have a warm dinner in Bridge Port (near by town) and camp
again in twin lakes (Crags Campground).

3) Sunday: come back to the Bay, I would like to do a short hike TB.
For example: go to Sonora Peak (11800 feet from Sonora Pass (9600
feet), 4~5 hours round trip, or do a short hike around Tioga Pass.

We need to bring:
- Warm clothes and warm sleeping bags for the 2 nights, tent and/or
bivouac camping equipment, light backpack, hiking shoes, light warm
jacket, sweaters, gloves, head lamp, if available emergency kit,
iodine or pump to purify water, and stove etc ...
-As for Food: bring 2 hiking lunches (sandwiches) and hiking snacks, 2
breakfasts (we will have the breakfast in the campground) and some
dishes ( let me know if you have stove not required).

We will have the warm dinners in towns or on the road.

If interested send me:
+ Your departure location,
+ Available hiking/camping equipment,
+ Description of physical conditions or hiking experience,
+ Car availability
+ Contact info.

The trip may be canceled in case of bad weather so far it is expected
to be good.

Has anyone done any of the hikes with folks on the BayAreaHiking yahoo group? I'm often tempted but then the leaders often sound a little...intense... What's the scoop? Which of those folks are good-natured peeps who wish to share the joy...?

Just a thought: as a sometime hike "leader" myself, I'd rather hear positive things than negative. Let's not talk about who sucks--someone probably loves 'em--just who's big fun!
