We have a 1 month old and I hike with my 5 year old son every weekend.

Try Muir Woods, a bit crowded and gloomy on a foggy day yet world famous and spectacular. The trails are flat and paved and very easy access for a stroller. Not such a good place if you seek sunshine.

There is about a mile and half of paved hiking through old growth redwoods. I think this was the Nation's first National Park.

One thing to watch for on the Redwood trail is dogs off leashes (in violation of the park rules). But, yeah, it's paved to the top there too. There are a couple of good views on the ascent but I find it more of woods hike...there is one really good view of Mt. Diable on the return.

well my wife and i just got back from redwood regional park. the park has trails that are fine for strollers. in fact we saw a bunch of strollers. it is located just a bit south of tilden along the same mountain/hill range if you will.

now there is a post for you chili that isn't full of my smack talking ways : )

yep that's the one we've already done at Inspiration Point...
walking down by the water on a sunny day would be nice for mom and baby too ~ thank you Curry! ~ I always forget about that "trail" since driving through traffic to walk, then fighting traffic to drive back home seems counterintuitive to my ideas of being outside relaxing...but it sure has been cleaned up and created just for people so I might as well use it eh?!

The Nimitz trail at inspiration point is a "paved" trail for four miles.
This is up in Tilden and perfect for you.

The Bay Trail from Emeryville to the Richmond Marina is "paved" for many miles and flat by the water. You can pick up the bay trail in Emeryville near Powell Street just past 80 or in Berkeley at University Ave just past 80.

ah gotcha chili, i meant to look up tilden to see where it was but forgot to do so. so many areas to see and learn. i'm only a two year old norcal resident and lived 5 long months in noe valley. not our kind of place either.

thanks Roger -- but I am specifically looking for east bay hikes/walks, preferably in or near Tilden, as I said in my original post.

and yes I got your funnyfunny about Noe Valley, and we have lots of places like that in the east bay... that I'd like to avoid! We are not *those* kinds of people.

if you are up to urban hikes then noe valley would be a great choice. i was just being funny earlier, but seriously noe vly is loaded with hills and is baby/stroller central. they even have stroller valet parking. no shit!

thanks TMIbo -- we used to hike at nearby Quarry a lot before the baby, but I'll check out Vollmer for sure!
I am also up for fully urban hikes around the bay area - it is always nice to find less-traveled roads to walk on if one has to walk on roads...

Chili,

The Vollmer Peak Trail is on a fire road I seem to recall...if you get a stroller with puffy wheels, it should be doable. And it has more varied terrain than the old Nimitz from Inspiration...with some fantastic views.

There's a trail that covers a ridge just before you get to the Inspiration trailhead parking lot from the Berkeley side. You can access this same trail from a spot nearer the Little Train and/or across the road from nearby picnic areas? I think it's called the Vollmer Peak trail?

hello -- I'm trying to get my good friend out of the house. She is a new mom with a now 2-month old baby who needs to get some sunshine and fresh air!

Does anyone have any recommendations for stroller-friendly hikes, preferably near or in Tilden park? We've hit the Inspiration Trail, which is paved and boring, but which fits the bill. We used to hike a lot before the baby and love altitude changes and rugged landscape, but access for the stroller is damn tricky.
