Hello Hikers!
It's just too slow over here on Tribe, as much as I've loved it and met great folks. If you'd like to be on the e-mail list I use, let me know. I post these over on (i know i know) Facebook in the "San Francisco Bay area Hiking" (sic) Group. Cheers!

This is for you more adventurous, flexible folk i.e. we've never been to this one before! I have GPS so we can always backtrack, but it's possible there will be a wrong turn or some indecision in there somewhere...if that sounds anxiety-provoking, this hike's probably not for you!

MOUNT DIABLO (Clayton/Walnut Creek)
14 miles
3200 Feet
10am-5pm
The grand circuit of the mountain with a hearty trek to the summit and lovely meandery trails coming down--Bald Ridge with lovely views falling away to both sides is not to be missed. Here's an image: people.tribe.net/mikmms/ph...db6af98370
I think this is going to be a twice-annual (winter/spring)tradition, henceforth. This'll be our sixth or seventh trip (second mid-winter ascent) and hearty hikers who want the 360 degree, all-terrain Diablo experience are highly encouraged to join us!
We'll leave the trailhead at 10:00am

OR
7 Miles
Noon-3:00 (Pantoll Trailhead)

The Steep Ravine trail is an absolute Bay Area gem. If you want less driving and more hiking, join us at 10:30am at the Mountain Home Inn parking lot and hike around on the Matt Davis Trail to the Pantoll Ranger Station. Or you can meet us there (RSVPing is vital!) at Noon and enjoy a 7 mile loop down to the beach via the Matt Davis Trail and then up Steep Ravine, where ferny creeky goodness abounds. From Pantoll, we'll take head over to Mountain Home Inn parking via the Troop 80 trail.

The M.O.:
There're some pretty intense hike organizers aren't there. This is not one of those groups. No one is too fast or too slow; if you want to come out, come out! We won't leave you in the dust or begrudge your speediness if you wish to charge ahead. The point is to get folks onto the trail to enjoy themselves in whatever way each hiker wishes: fast/slow/pensive/chatty/etc. Just be reasonably mindful of the other hikers' temperaments (i.e. don't babble cheerfully at a naturey introvert trying to soak in a rapture of woodsy contemplation)... Everyone takes breaks when they like, eats when they like, etc....

True... but the people keep going away... (and were going away long ago before the improvements, when there was no communication about the fact that there might actually be some improvements). Most of the complaints now aren't about the site, but about the fact that there's hardly any activity anymore...

I dunno. I still feel Tribe has the best forums. The people here mean more to each other than on FB or the other sites. I do agree that activity has dropped off a ton thanks to the previous management's horrible horrible horrible issues with just basic website management.

Tribe is running better than ever on the hardware end of things...unfortunately, it might be too little too late as many people gave up on them before the NSA changes to it's operations went into affect and it doesn't seem many of them are coming back. They (NSA) should email everyone who left and BEG them to return even giving away star access or whatever just to try and boost the membership traffic. I think people would return and give Tribe a second chance. But I digress...I'm not in charge.

LOL Hmmm. I'll keep checking in. Tribe has been good to me and nowhere else has quite what it has... except...the people...but if I leave I can't complain about others being gone. So I'll hang around!

Thanks for piping up, fellow tribesters!
          :)

Go figure. Somebody told me this evening that the infrastructure here at tribe has stabilized quite a bit in the last few months so I've been having a look 'round again.

            'B-bye!
