Hello everybody!
I just moved up to Fort Bragg from L.A. and am LOVING it!!!
I've been here three weeks and have been doing lots of local hikes in Russian Gulch State Park, Jug Handle reserve, Glass Beach, MacKerricher.....
But I am really interested in the Lost Coast trail... Where is it?!? What is it?
Also what are the best day hikes and backpacking trails you know in Mendocino county? Anybody know where I can go find some of the old growth redwood groves locally? What other things are up here that I absolutely need to go check out?
Wildlife viewing is a particular interest of mine....
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: New To Northern Cali!
Sun, September 9, 2007 - 9:45 PMLost Coast Trail is in the Kings Range Conservation Area. It basically stretches from Shelter Cove to the Mouth of the Mattole River in Southern Humboldt. I think, you can access the trail from Fort Bragg through the Sinkyone Wilderness, but I imagine thats a pretty gnarly hike and maybe not feasible - dependng on the length of trip. You may have to drive out to the 101 or so and head into Shelter Cove out of Garberville area. There is a trailhead at Black Sands Beach.
